Brothers Play Brothers in
Brighton Beach Memoirs

If you ask a certain group of Twin Cities theater artists with the last name ‘Levin’, Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs is indeed a family affair. Attend Brighton Beach Memoirs at BTAC’s Black Box Theater September 9 – October 2 and you’ll experience the story of teenaged brothers named Eugene and Stanley Jerome as interpreted by real-life brothers, Spencer and Ryan Levin.

BTAC Volunteers Honored

VolunteersMore than 85 people gathered in late July to recognize the contributions our talented volunteers made to BTAC over the past year. The volunteer appreciation celebration included a review of our 2010-11 accomplishments, special recognition for volunteers who contributed more than 50 hours of service, and a presentation of the Mel Kirkpatrick Volunteer of the Year Award. The Hilton Minneapolis/Bloomington hosted the celebration, providing complimentary meeting space and hors d’oeuvres.

The Atelier
Exhibit in the Inez Greenberg Gallery

Bloomington Theatre and Art Center is pleased to announce On the Training of Painters: The Atelier’s Past and Present, a special exhibition to be held in the Inez Greenberg Gallery, September 1 – October 14, 2011. On the Training of Painters: The Atelier’s Past and Present is sponsored by Wet Paint.

The Atelier

Atelier (the French word for ‘workshop’) is a style of painting passed on from teacher to student which melds formal academic training with the influence of the American Impressionists. The focus is on teaching fine draftsmanship and painting skills which will lead to the creation of well constructed artwork. Today’s Atelier students receive instruction passed down through a lineage that can be directly traced back to the artist Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825).
